A man accuses Edo police of negligence over the murder of his cousin

X (formerly Twitter) user, Yusuf Abubakar, has accused the Edo State Police Command of negligence in bringing to justice the suspected killer of his cousin, Isiyaka Musa.

Abubakar disclosed this in multiple tweets shared on his X account on Monday.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the tweep’s cousin was allegedly killed by suspected hunters while grazing herds of cows in Sasaro community in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of ​​Edo State.

It was further gathered that the hunters allegedly shot the victim and set him on fire, which led to the death of 21-year-old Musa.

According to Abubakar, the matter was reported to the Edo State Police Command but the police were accused of making no effort to arrest the alleged perpetrators of the murder. He further emphasized that the alleged suspect resorted to threatening his family.

“My name is Yusuf Abubakar and I am the cousin of a person killed by hunters in Akoko, Edo State. My family still feels pain and sadness over this vile and inhumane act of the hunters, and yet none of them have been arrested.

“We are a Bornakaen (Fulani herdsmen) family who have been living in Edo for over 40 years. We are known for our peaceful, harmonious, law-abiding citizens and always stand for peace. It was on October 23, 2023, when hunters from Igara commune shot and burned one of our sons (Isiyaka Musa, 21 years old).

“The perpetrators continue to threaten us, saying they can wipe us all out and nothing will happen. We are all Nigerians!

“We write with great pain and sadness due to the wicked and inhumane murder of our brother by hunters from the Igara commune on October 23, 2023 in a grazing area. We reported the matter to the Edo State Police Command but nothing was done,” he wrote on Twitter.

Abubakar called on police authorities to help bring justice to his cousin’s murder.

“We are law-abiding citizens, but we will not allow a member of our family to be killed like an animal. We appeal to security agencies and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene so that justice prevails.”

When will he contact PUNCH MetroChidi Nwabuzor, Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, noted that the investigation was aimed at unraveling the matter, stressing that further information would be released as soon as the investigation is completed.

“The case is ongoing. As soon as the operatives complete their investigation, we will announce the outcome,” Nwabuzor noted.
