Alex Eala is heading into the quarterfinals in Luxembourg

MANILA, Philippines – Alex Eala entered the quarterfinals of the W40 Kyotec Open with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over qualifier Johanne Christine Svendsen of Denmark on Friday (Manila time) in Pétange, Luxembourg.

The 18-year-old Filipina continued her great form, defeating Svendsen after a 6-3, 6-2 victory over German Angelina Wirges in the first round.

On Friday evening, ninth-seeded Eala will face fellow qualifier Jasmijn Gimbrere of the Netherlands in the quarterfinals.

Gimbrere defeated Julia Avdeeva 6-3, 6-4 in the second round and faced Eala, who is currently ranked 204th in the world.

The Rafael Nadal Academy graduate dreams of her fifth International Tennis Federation (ITF) crown.

The two-time Asian Games bronze medalist reached the semi-finals of W60 Nantes in France.

Meanwhile, Eala and Zyenep Sonmez of Turkiye face top seeds Ali Collins of Great Britain and Isabelle Haverlag of the Netherlands in the semifinal round of doubles also on Friday night.

In the quarterfinals, Eala and Sonmez defeated Bosnian Anita Wagner from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbian Katarina Kozarov 6-2, 6-1.
