Netflix has released the first image of Eddie Murphy’s return to the series Beverly Hills Cop franchise as Axel Foley.
The photo shows Murphy’s Axel Foley, with his hands raised, wearing a Detroit Lions jacket, standing face-to-face with two police officers, with a group of onlookers behind him recording the incident on their phones. See photo below.
Murphy returns to reprise his role as Axel almost 30 years after the premiere Beverly Hills Cop 3.
Mark Molloy directs the sequel, which also stars Kevin Bacon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, as well as Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot, who reprise their characters from the previous films.
The script was written by Will Beall. Murphy also serves as a producer, along with Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Ray Angelic will executive produce the new film. Melissa Reid of Jerry Bruckheimer Films will serve as co-producer.
The series moved from Paramount to Netflix in the winter of 2019 and follows the adventures of Detroit cop Foley, who first appeared in the 1984 hit, which took him to Beverly Hills to solve the murder of a friend. The film became one of the biggest hits of the year and cemented Murphy’s status as a movie star. Two sequels followed, in 1987 and 1994. The first film grossed $234 million at the U.S. box office, making it the highest-grossing domestic release of 1984, and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 1985.
Beverly Hills Cop 4 is scheduled to be released in 2024.
