China awards scholarships to 52 Nigerian teachers and students

The Embassy of China in Nigeria on Tuesday awarded scholarships to 52 primary school teachers and students of the China-Aided Model Primary School in Nyanya, Abuja to promote and improve education in Nigeria.
The event commemorated the “China-Nigeria Friendship Award on October 1” on the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In her speech at the ceremony, Liang Huili, wife of the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, said the scholarships were awarded to 32 students and 20 teachers in recognition of outstanding qualities and to highlight the strategic role of education in strengthening friendship and cooperation.
She also emphasized the importance of education as the basis for progress and prosperity.
“Education is the hope of the country’s development; when the youth are educated, the country will be proud of them in the years to come.
“It is my sincere hope that Nigeria will make great strides with the rapid development of the education sector,” she said.
Ms. Liang also praised the scholarship recipients and urged them to continue to pursue their academic dreams.
In her remarks, Jummai Haruna, the principal of the school, expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its continued efforts to promote education in Nigeria.
Ms. Haruna noted that the scholarship served not only as recognition of the academic excellence of the recipients, but also as a testament to the hard work, resilience and determination that each recipient demonstrated in their academic journey.
“Today, our school is the sole beneficiary of the 2023 Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Award as a result of the wisdom and decisions of the embassy and the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB),” she said.
The director urged the Chinese mission to continue its efforts to promote cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries.
In his speech, the Executive Chairman of FCT UBEB, Alhassan Sule, commended the Chinese Embassy for its commitment to strengthening the partnership between China and Nigeria.
