Customs seizes goods worth $13 million at Adamawa/Taraba Area Command

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, has announced the seizure of various items including 15,449 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) motor gasoline with a total duty paid value of N13 million. The disclosure was made in an official statement released on the NCS Twitter account.

According to the statement, Area Controller Salisu Abdullahi disclosed the details during a press conference held on November 17, 2023 at the command headquarters in Yola.

The confiscated items included 19 cartons of foreign insecticide and 26 bags of 50-kilogram foreign parboiled rice. Due to the flammability of PMS, the Controller found that most of the product was disposed of in accordance with applicable regulations and the proceeds were transferred to the Federation’s account.

According to Abdullahi, the remaining PMS on site is expected to be auctioned after the clearance. He noted that no smugglers were detained during the operation as all of them managed to escape. Nevertheless, he reaffirmed his commitment to crack down on smugglers, stressing that the nation cannot afford to let saboteurs undermine the economy.

The Comptroller urged Nigerians, stakeholders and relevant security agencies at the command’s borders to continue to cooperate with Customs in the ongoing fight against smuggling.
