Dana Carvey thanks friends and fans for support following the death of son Dex and announces she is taking a break from work and social media

Just days after Dana Carvey’s oldest son, Dex, died from a reported drug overdose, the comedian took to social media to thank friends, fans and those who knew Dex for “so many beautiful messages.”
He continued: “My wife and I are overwhelmed by your love, your personal stories and your compassion.”
He then announced, “I will be taking a break from work and social media to figure out what life is like now that we are a family of three. We will recover and perform as best we can. Our dear Dex would like it to be so.
Carvey signed off: “Much love, Dana.”
On Wednesday, Carvey and his wife Paula released a statement that read in part: “We experienced a terrible tragedy last night. Our beloved son Dex died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old.
“Dex has contributed a lot in these 32 years. He was incredibly talented in many areas – music, art, filmmaking and comedy – and he pursued them all with passion.”
