Dex Carvey has died: the son of comedian Dana Carvey was 32 years old

According to a statement from his parents, Dana Carvey’s oldest son, Dex, died Wednesday evening of a drug overdose. He was 32 years old.

“We experienced a terrible tragedy last night. Our beloved son Dex died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old,” Dana and Paula Carvey’s statement began.

“Dex has contributed a lot in these 32 years. He was incredibly talented in many areas – music, art, filmmaking and comedy – and he pursued them all with passion.”

Dex Carvey “loved his family, friends and girlfriend Kaylee. Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. We will miss him forever.”

Dana, 68, and Paula concluded their message with a prayer for those who “struggle with addiction.”

Authorities said his girlfriend called from Dex Carvey’s home around 10 p.m. Pacific time Wednesday night. He apparently locked himself in the bathroom and was unresponsive when authorities arrived, and attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy.

Dex Carvey attended his father’s Netflix special in 2016 A straight white man.

Dana and Paula also have a 30-year-old son, Thomas, another aspiring comedian.
