DOST inks collaborates with an artificial intelligence weather company

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on Thursday signed an agreement with artificial intelligence (AI) meteorological company ATMO Inc. to build a “high-resolution weather forecast system” in the country.

The signing of the MoU was witnessed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on the sidelines of the 2023 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in San Francisco, California.

“The ATMO-DOST partnership on an AI-based weather forecast system will help the Philippines build resilience to climate change,” Marcos said.

The agreement was signed by DOST Undersecretary Maridon Sahagun and ATMO Inc. Founder and CEO. Alexander Levy.

According to Marcos, the partnership is a manifestation of the United States and the Philippines’ “unwavering commitment” to cooperation, innovation and progress.

“What we witnessed today will take us closer to our vision of a more prosperous and sustainable Philippines,” Marcos said.

He further assured private and public partners in the country and in the U.S. of the Government of the Philippines’ commitment to provide the necessary resources to ensure the success of the partnership.
