Elton John-Jake Shears’ musical ‘Tammy Faye’ hits Broadway in 2024-25

Tammy FayeElton John, Jake Shears and James Graham’s Olivier-nominated musical about 1980s television evangelist Tammy Faye Bakker will premiere on Broadway in the 2024-2025 season.
The musical will be performed at the yet unannounced Nederlander Theater. Location, production dates and casting will be announced at a later date.
Producers Rocket Stage, Greene Light Stage and James L. Nederlander today announced the Almeida Theater production’s transfer to Broadway.
Tammy Faye features music by John, lyrics by Scissor Sisters’ Shears and a book by Ink playwright Graham. Rupert Goold, who directed “Graham.” InkTammy Faye will direct and Lynne Page will choreograph.
On the Broadway creative team: Tom Deering (musical supervision, arrangements and additional music); Deering and Mark Dickman (orchestrations); Bunny Christie (set design); Katrina Lindsay (costume design); Neil Austin (Lighting Design); Bobby Aitken (sound design); and Finn Ross (video design).
Tammy Faye had its world premiere in autumn 2022 at London’s Almeida Theatre, where it was nominated for four Olivier Awards, including Best Musical.
Official synopsis: “In a South Carolina studio, Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker revolutionized religion. By preaching 24 hours a day to millions of people, Tammy simply wants to bring the fun back to faith. But the new wave of preachers wants you not only to feel God in your hearts, but also in your homes, in your schools, and also in the law.”
Tammy Faye is Elton John’s latest theatrical work The Lion King, Aida by Elton John and Tim Rice; Billy Elliot the Musical; and upcoming The devil wears Prada. Shears’ first musical Tales of the cityentered production at the American Conservatory Theater in 2010 and played Charlie Price Kinky Shoes On broadway. He is currently making his West End debut as the Emcee in the acclaimed revival Cabaret.
Graham’s theater work includes Dear England, Ink, Best of Enemies and more. Television credits include Sherwood; Quiz; Brexit: Homeless War; AND Coalition.
