Grant: Nigerians deserve good governance – NNPP Chief

The leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has declared that Nigerians need good governance as a dividend of democracy.
Ambassador Ajadi said this on Tuesday in Ibadan while speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Press Week at the Oyo Correspondents’ Chapel, NUJ, held in Ibadan.
He disclosed that Nigerians deserve better benefits of democracy, especially in the face of current economic difficulties
Nigerian citizens are not enjoying the fruits of democracy from its leaders who only think of their own personal gain at the expense of the majority of Nigerians.
He stressed that the government has no reason to believe that the solution to mitigating the effects of abolishing fuel subsidies is to share money, adding that the money should be spent on the growth and progress of the nation.
“Nigerians do not expect money from the government, they need good governance, good road network, stable electricity, let us start enjoying the benefits of democracy by giving a Nigerian a monthly allowance as a Nigerian citizen,” he said
Ambassador Ajadi added: “There is no transparency and clarity in the government’s actions, in order to ensure real transparency, all names of palliative benefits beneficiaries should be published in a newspaper along with their account number before disbursement of funds.”
The NNPP chief pointed out that the government is unable to identify the poorest of the poor for whom palliative funds are actually intended without diverting money to politicians’ accounts.
He further charged journalists to uphold professional ethics as their efforts towards nation building cannot be overemphasized.
