BACOLOD CITY – La Castellana City Council suspended a councilor linked to a police recruitment scam during a special session on Monday, November 20, due to a series of unexplained absences.

The council approved the immediate suspension of Councilor Donato “Natnat” Dumaguit for 15 days without pay and ordered him to pay a fine of P3,000, without prejudice to the filing of a case against him.

Councilor Leonardo Bacquian said a majority of council members voted to expel Dumaguit from the city council, which would have to be decided and ordered by a court.

“They have instructed the council secretary to engage the services of their lawyer to present charges to the court seeking Dumaguit’s expulsion,” he said.

Dumaguit had 13 unexplained absences from council meetings.

The Negros Occidental prosecutor’s office filed large-scale charges against Dumaguit for his alleged involvement in the recruitment of 40 people, most of whom were La Castellana residents, to work for the Philippine National Police for remuneration.
