Newly sworn-in MP Roberto Uy Jr. is preparing to start legislative work

Newly sworn-in Zamboanga del Norte 1st District MP Roberto “Pinpin” Uy Jr. addresses his constituents during a collective oath taking and thanksgiving after the Supreme Court declared him a rightful 2022 election victory.
Newly sworn-in Zamboanga del Norte 1st District MP Roberto “Pinpin” Uy Jr. is wasting no time in beginning his legislative duties after his legal battle with Romeo Jalosjos Jr. (R. Jalosjos) deprived him of almost half of his term.
Solon is focused on addressing the challenges facing his district and restoring it to its former glory through Uy’s long legacy of good governance and results- and people-oriented leadership.
“We cannot turn back lost time, but I am adamant that we make the most of the remaining year and a half of Congress to advance policies that will improve the lives of the people of Zamboanga del Norte,” Uy said.
Uy just took the oath of office as a member of the House of Representatives during Monday’s plenary session led by Speaker Ferdinando Martin Romualdez.
This came after the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) officially announced his electoral victory over R. Yalosjos after the Supreme Court confirmed the fairness and legality of his victory in the 2022 elections despite baseless accusations.
Uy won the most votes in the May 2022 elections (69,591), defeating incumbent R. Jalosjos, who received only 69,109 votes. The remaining candidates Frederico Jalosjos (F. Jalosjos) and Richard Amazon received 5,424 and 288 votes respectively.
His proclamation was erroneously suspended pending the filing of a case relating to the Provincial Board of Canvassers’ (PBOC) request to declare R. Jalosjos the winning candidate after attributing to him the votes of F. Jalosjos, who was deemed a nuisance candidate. This brought his votes to around 75,000.
The High Court ruled that the suspension order was issued on the bare allegations of R. Jalosjos and, in effect, found that F. Jalosjos was not a nuisance candidate, confirming Uy’s electoral victory.
During his tenure as mayor, Polanco Uy spearheaded urban development projects in the areas of livelihoods, education, sports and infrastructure.
