EXCLUSIVE: Angel Studios, the studio behind the global surprise hit The Sound of Freedomacquired worldwide rights to Bonhoeffer (e.g God’s spy), a thriller based on a true story, written and directed by Sully writer Todd Komarnicki. The film, which highlights the courage and sacrifice of the extraordinary hero of World War II, will be released in cinemas in 2024.
The hero of the picture is Dietrich Bonhoeffer (Jonas Dassler), a pacifist pastor determined to live with uncompromising political and spiritual courage, choosing to live in Berlin during the Third Reich. Plotting to end the Nazi regime, he fearlessly spoke the truth in the face of merciless oppression and evil. His influence is still felt around the world.
Starring Never look awayDassler is August Diehl (The Infamous Bastards), Moritza Bleibtreu (Run Lola, run), Nadine Heidenreich (Message on the island of bottles), David Jonsson (Rye Lane) and Flula Borg (Suicide Squad). Producers were Emmanuel and Camille Kampouris, Komarnicki, Ralph Winter (X Men), Mark O’Sullivan and Chloe Kassis-Crowe via Irish company Crow’s Nest Productions. Co-produced by Jean Jaques Neira for Fontana in Belgium.
Komarnicki told Deadline that “it was an extraordinary privilege to meet Dietrich Bonhoeffer and be honored to share his exciting story with the world. “Dietrich’s message of peace and courage is as urgent in 2023 as it was in 1945.”
