The Players Who Need To Play Well To Get Retained In IPL 2022

The second half of the fourteenth season of IPL is all set to start in September within the UAE. The matches are crucial for the 8 franchises contemplating there is a mega public sale that is lined up in 2022. Even the best players will have to be on their toes to get retained for IPL 2022. As per the best prediction for IPL matches, MI or RCB is likely to lift the IPL trophy this season. Therefore, there is no doubt that players like Virat Kohli, Keiron Pollard, and Rohit Sharma, are most likely to be retained by their respective franchises.

It is the underperformers and fringe gamers, who are in a trickier spot. Not just the Indian players, the overseas players have also been feeling the pressure. The 8 franchises can retain 3 players. Even though talks have been going on that the squads wanted more caps on players retained, the cricket board has stuck with the actual plan of 3 players for now.

Here are some players who should play well to get retained in IPL 2022.

1.    Ruturaj Gaikwad

The youngster from Chennai Super Kings has got off to an excellent start in the IPL. He registered 3 ducks in IPL 2020 but made amends towards the end of the season by scoring 3 successive fifties.

Thus, he turned out to be the first uncapped player in IPL’s history to achieve this feature. In the first half of IPL’s 14th edition, the right-handed batsman got off to a great start since he was able to score two fifties. His opening duo with Faf du Plessis had been great.

Gaikwad now has the chance to play well and score in the rest of the matches for Chennai Super Kings.

2.    Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey, the batsman from Karnataka has been able to play some impactful matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He had been signed for more than 11 crores in the IPL 2018 auction. Until now, he has been used at numbers 3 and 4. However, due to his slow strike rate and his failure to hit the ball, Pandey has lost his place in the IPL, this year. Some games are still left in the UAE leg of the IPL. So, Pandey should be looking to anchor the SRH batting order.

3.    Glenn Maxwell

Glenn had a mediocre season for Punjab Kings in the IPL last year, he made an exceptional comeback this year for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He rose like a phoenix and scored consistent runs.

Maxwell has a fixed role in the team. He played in number four by the management. Not only did he play fearlessly, but also let AB de Villiers play more freely. The player has scored over 200 runs in the 14th edition of IPL. He can carry on with the same momentum moving ahead.

4.    Shreyas Gopal

Shreyas Gopal has been one of the first discoveries of the Royals’ tournament, and also IPL. His leg-spin has been quite important for Rajasthan Royals and his low bowling has helped the team in the most critical situations. He has also been the top spinner of the attack. Gopal has been playing with the franchise for over 3 years.

The most noteworthy moment for him was when he dismissed de Villers and Kohli. In fact, he has also been successful in picking up 48 wickets in 47 games. The young player will be looking to add more wickets to his impressive career.

5.    Krunal Pandya

Krunal Pandya had surprised people when he was bought for over 8 crores in the 2018 IPL auction. He has been associated with the franchise for over 4 years.

He has contributed a lot with his bat and ball. However, his most noteworthy performance had been during the IPL 2017 finals when he played against Rising Pune Supergiant. However, for the last two years, he has had mixed seasons when he played for Mumbai Indians.

As the auctions are scheduled next year, Pandya hopes to deliver in IPL’s UAE leg.

6.    Dinesh Karthik

The management has complete faith in Dinesh Karthik in 2018 as they named him the skipper. However, he has not yet set the stage on fire. Karthik is always considered to be greatly skillful, but he has played in patches.

The right-handed batsman had also failed to mark as captain. He had been unable to win games for KKR. Even though he quit captaincy, he hadn’t been able to finish the games as he would have liked.

As age runs out, Karthik has to get back in form. Other than Eoin Morgan and Russel, he is the key batsman for KKR. He has also said that he wants to play the T20s for India. If he performs well in the UAE leg, he can remind selectors of his performance.

So, these were the players who need to perform well so that they get retained for the upcoming IPL season. The good news for IPL fans is that Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the two franchises to have reached Dubai, to begin preparing for the remaining 31 games.
